Crowdfunding Creality M1R1

I again backed a crowed funded project that is starting to look sketchy. The Creality M1/R1 recycler. It is way behind projected timelines and has some serious issues. It appears they are having feed issues (the big issue many filament systems have).

I have a poor history with such things. MU Optics (cut and ran) Tiko (never worked well) and a robust cable that never delivered.

I read the comments and it is clear most backers though (incorrectly) they were buying a product. Not backing an idea.

I still believe the reality project is important and I think they have a better change than the other (failed and partially functional) filament recycling systems. I still dream of a day when old broken plastic stuff is dropped into a unit and filament is spit out the other end. LOL Maybe someday…

Has anyone else backed the Creality M1R1? Do you have thoughts?

Why would a company as big as Creality need to crowd fund anything? Me thinks me smell a perfume covered rat.

Marketing silliness. I don’t like that large companies crowdfund it’s not the intention of crowdfunding but this is behaving more like a real crowdfunding. They have done 4 I think maybe 5 crowdfunding projects in the past.

They have kinda made a mistake step there are 7K backers (indigogo) and generally very unhappy from the comments. There is a lot of backlash and add the 5 or 6 law suits and the class action suites it doesn’t play well.

I don’t love them as a company the corporate model they follow sucks.

I still think that supporting a filament recycler of any off the shelf turn key solution is important. If it gets off the ground of not. I supported the Snapmaker and they sparked a whole shift and a bunch of new products. I hope the filament recycler will at least do the same.

Its just become the thing to do. Let the herd invest in R&D: no loss if it fails and pure profit when it sells.

Another company got me once. Never again: I’ll wait and pay retail (if I think its worth it).

For my part I am riding the grand on this. I really hope that it sparks other companies to build similar products. I have been saying filament recycling was important for years. Time for me to put up or shut up. There really is no small scale reasonably priced functional recyclers on the market. This project received the 2 million USD in under an hour. It should be sending a loud and clear message that the industry wants a recycler.

I really hate Creality, making the consumer beta test everything release a lot of almost the same product to confuse the consumer, and piggy back on open source development and not contribute in any meaningful way. I still believe it is important to support this kind of development I am in a place where I can, I did.

Retail at least means there’s a real product and some reviews to go by. Crowdfunding has turned into a paid beta test with no refund button.

Creality. They treat everyone as a beta tester. I am just glad someone has had great success with a recycler and I hope there will be more to follow. I supported Snapmaker with the same reasoning, and it has changed the face of printing, there are 5 or 6 new tool changers since the U1 was released.
