Technically the only diff from the factory printers is the direction of the Z axis. You could “technically” flip direction on the Z-axis wiring and get away with it in a pinch.
Ik had a very similar issue. Just came here to tell me how this thread helped me solve it.
I bought 2 Ender-5 Pro’s. Seller claims he printed on both last week. One worked, the other had a blank screen. I moved the screen of the working one to the dead one: blank screen. Moved the screen back, now the working combo was giving a blank screen. Welp.
USB connection reported a usb-to-serial connection on eacht device, but no data.
Crazy situation: is a broken controller board breaking the screens which in turn is breaking the controller boards?? Doesn’t make sense.
As I now had nothing to lose, I tried re-installing the firmware. Found it here: Ender-5 Pro Downloads: Firmware, Software & User Manuals Figured out how to format an sd-card with a 4096 block size (in linux) (is this even a real requirement?): sudo mkfs.fat -F 32 -s 8 -S 512 /dev/sdx -I
Copied the firmware onto it and turned on the printers… worked on both, within seconds it showed the Ender logo. Hooray!
TIP: I did find out it won’t work using an 128MB SD card, but an 8GB card worked fine.
I can’t fathom how a firmware can get corrupt spontaneously and, weirder, how swapping the display corrupted the firmware of the working device.
