eSun PVA STINKS ! Does anyone have any better ideas?

I have been using eSun dissolvable PVA for my support, and its horrible !!! It works great the first time and then clogs the nozzles so badly that I have to rebuild the entire hot end. I observed all of the temperature instructions, I have printed it well within the safe temperature range and no matter what I do, it clogs after one or two uses. I’m done with it, I put it in the trash last night and now I’m looking for a new dissolvable support.

Will some please recommend a reliable, reputable, non clogging dissolvable support !!

Many thanks and much appreciated

Ron

I have had similar issues with other brands. I did see one brand suggest not to leave the filament in the hotent after the print is complete to help prevent clogs. I also use a drybox.

Yes that could be a possible solution, the problem is if I have to do a long print or the print finishes before I can get back to it or if I simply forget then boom, the hot end is jammed solid.
No, I need a dissolvable filament (not necessarily PVA, that is not so irksome)

Hi there,

If you are looking for another material other than pva I would have to suggest hips. It dissolves in limonene, so you can go and get a cleaner that contains it from most any hardware store.

I definitely recommend being more careful with using this stuff, make sure to wear the proper ppe and such as you don’t want to receive any negative effects from the cleaners. But overall hips is a bit more stable to work with.

If you are looking to try another brand of pva we do also carry a couple you could try out.

Thank you so much, I will look into this Hips filament.

Ron

Do you know if this Hips filament can be used with PVA ?

Ron

Sorry I meant to say PLA ?

Ron

Yes you should be able to use PLA with HIPS as PLA doesn’t dissolve in Limonene.

There are some temperature differences between the materials so you may just have to mess around a bit and get them tuned in. Start with small prints until you get it properly figured out and then you can expand.

I would like to mention that HIPS is generally used as a support material for ABS, I cannot be certain that it will work because I have not tried it. But I feel like there isn’t much reason it won’t work.

You might find it more useful to try one of our brands of PVA, I have heard lots of good things about our house brand stuff!
