Extruder hits the build plate and makes a horrible noise as it pushe s down

So I am fairly new to having a 3D printer. I have an Anet ET4 Pro. Lately the extruder hits the build plate and keeps pushing down, i can see the extruder housing flex a little. What causes this and how can i fix it please?

I’m not familiar with that printer but I’m assuming there is some sort of Z stop that should keep that from happening. Make sure it is OK. If that isn’t it has something changed in the bed levelling IE: it has been adjusted and maybe the Z offset needs adjusting?

Hello there!

Welcome to our forum here, we are so glad to have you!

Would you be able to provide any extra information? I take it the printer has been working fine in the past, correct? Can you provide us with any pictures or videos of what exactly is going on? The easiest way to do this is to upload it to google drive, onedrive, or another cloud storage system and then share the link here.

Have you changed anything on the printer at all recently, this could be something like the nozzle, build surface, or firmware.

Thanks,
Matthew

Hi thanks for the reply, i looked for a way to adjust my z offset like you suggested but i can’t figure out the proper setting and there’s not much for info and videos for an Anet et4 that i can see. I contacted anet but they don’t want to give me support because I got it used. It use to work and i have about 20 successful jobs but thenit went out of wack.

Hi. It was working fine and then i started having issues with the nozzle clogging and some filament not loading properly and such. The last thing i did was pull the black mat off of the glass build plate because the nozzle had carved into it because it keeps going to low and i read that I could print directly on glass so i thought I’d try it. It was already to low so i can’t imagine that taking that black thing off caused it but maybe I am wrong.

How do you adjust the bed for levelling IE: springs or what.

Yea its a nut that you turn manually and theres springs. I lowered the bed as low as it will go and it still hits it. I took the build plate off and the extruder hits the heat plate instead. I am guessing there should be a stop sensor somewhere and it’s not working anymore?

I don’t know how it works on your printer but there is a micro switch mounted on the left pillar of my Ender 3V2 that limits the amount that the gantry can go down AKA the Z Stop. This is disabled if an ABL is installed because the ABL becomes the Z stop.

Oh ok, i will look for a micro switch when I can. How do you like your printer?

If your printer uses one it may have slipped down giving you a false Z stop bottom level.

My printer is great. I have done a lot of upgrades/mods that are not strictly needed but it is nicer to use and I don’t have a lot of the common printer problems now.

Oh yeah? What kind of mods have you done that solved your issues?

I still can’t find a setting that stops mine from hitting the build plate. I contacted Anet yesterday but I have not heard back from them yet. I have to say that I am not impressed with their customer service. If I ever get another 3D Printer it will have to be something much better than anet.

If Anet is a Chinese company then don’t expect much, most of them don’t have a good customer service policy.

I didn’t have a problem but I did install an ABL which replaces the Z stop micro switch. I doubt there is a “setting” but there should be a physical switch of some kind that sets the Z stop limit. These can loosen and move down with time. It may also have gone bad??

Yea it’s possible that something came loose. What is a top brand of 3d printers?
