After installing linear rails and reassembling the printer I have been having problems levelling the bed and setting the Z off set, as in it won’t and I finally resorted to getting the son over to help. I know asking for help breaks the man code but I am desperate. After playing with it his opinion is that the bed springs are worn out and won’t hold steady. They are thee years old and while I was using the printer, with a CR Touch, it wasn’t necessary to level the bed (at least 18 months) and since I left the springs alone they where fine. I still had great first layers but tearing it down and assembling it was to much for the springs. We think.
So I need to buy new springs, the extra strong ones but who can you trust on Amazon to actually get the right ones?
As an alternative how do the silicon supports work and do they hold up. How to get good ones off of Amazon.
There is so much counterfeit crap coming out of China it is hard to decide who to trust.
why not just order the Creality springs for your model, or do you feel you really need them to be more robust? One of the tricks I did with my daughter’s Geetech I3 clone was to print little 1 cm x 1 cm cubes with a recessed dimple and a shaft the bolt could pass through. This let me better accommodate the warp in the wooden support for the heat bed by getting a bit more tension into those original springs.
Perhaps try searching on reddit to see if anyone has any recommendations for a particular seller of springs or the silicon supports?
Unfortunately, I’ve got nothing else to offer here except I hope you solve that conundrum!
The Creality springs work OK but they do fade after a year or so. The ones I originally put in where much stronger and the new ones are stronger then them since they get weak with time and have been on the printer for 3 years-ish.
It didn’t solve the problem.
I used the MESH function to create a new print surface mesh, using the probe and it came out all green (some slightly different shades) which I believe means the bed was level. I had previously manually levelled the bed and the CR Touch seems to be OK also. I can’t find any physical problems, Next I have to get the Z offset right and that might be the problem.
Got the boy over to help and the Z offset is now OK, the printer prints again.
