Hepa filter for the K1 MAX

The K1 MAX comes with a charcoal filter mounted in a recess on the back, no Hepa filter. I ordered a pack of them and then made a fixture to mount them on the printer.

The charcoal filter is slipped inside the box with the Hepa on top of it, then a retainer is put on top of it held by the two clips (red arrow, printed separately and glued on) on the side. The box just slides into the recess and is clipped into place by the fingers that originally held the charcoal filter in place (blue arrow).

Hopefully this will help diminish the plastic smell that comes from printing.

P.S. if anyone wants the files let me know. Others are available on Thingaverse.

Nice work. What fan are you going to use? Mine uses a pair of 4028s.

I’m just using the stock fan for now but the air flow, through the filter, is anemic so I may change it.

I have my printers hooked up to a single exhaust fan that is vented outside. Each printer has a blast valve so I can throttle the flow. No smell whatsoever and I am printing nylon and ABS most of the time. Seemed like the safest route.

Outside is best I am sure. I have my laser cutter hooked outside. Its quite a long run for the printers maybe I’ll get it sorted some day with a larger fan.

This looks great. Good work You may want to post the files up here!

Do you find you are losing any heat by doing this? We find most people spend the money on a BOFA air filter for this reason, it takes the VOC’s out and keeps the heat in.

I haven’t run the printer since I added the mod so … I print PLA and I will try the fan on with the lid in place to see if there is a temp drop.

How and were.
