High speed filament

Is it necessary to use high speed PLA filament or is regular PLA filament OK. Does it perform better then the regular filament.

I don’t print much pla but I have never bought the high speed stuff and the regular stuff worked fine at 300mm/s. I just ran it at a lower temp than the high speed.

Yeah for the K1 Max, I use most any filament with no issues. The hotend is high enough flowrate and they leave some headroom in the slicer so you should be good. The only thing you might have to do is bump up your temperature 5-10 degrees.

agreed. my K1max has basically never run anything but budget pla and of its issues, I think at most 1 could have been caused by filament.

Yeah its important when running budget PLA and other high speed filaments that you take the top off of enclosed machines (or crack the door).

Reason being that the high speed PLA has a lower melting point which both gives it extra flowrate but also can cause it to soften and clog in an enclosed machine when normal PLA might not.

I wondered why the manual states that the top has to be removed for PLA. It has a 30C temp limit.
Would it be OK to print a fitting that can be placed on the front edge of the lip so that it a can be propped up, a couple of inches, to vent heat or is it necessary to remove it.

Yep absolutely, I do that with a bunch of them here! Way better than propping the glass panel up somewhere it could fall and break!

If your hot end/extruder can push out enough plastic fast enough its really not needed

Seconded It really didn’t make any difference in my case.

If the PLA is made from a Chinese Hisun PLA whether Revode 190 or 195 it will print well at high speeds

The issue is with NatureWorks 3D850 which is a USA PLA pellet, it just doesnt print as well at high speeds without additives.

This might be because of the warm ambient of the shop. It’s about 10 degrees warmer there on average than my house and I don’t have this issue with my K1 and budget pla.
