I use 16 gb cards usually. I found that this will only work if formatted in a digital camera and then in a computer delete the folders created by the camera. I use a mac. Disk utility app (not the command) if presented with a 16 or greater it will want to format with EX fat and use larger blocks. This will not work. This works on my printers (monoprice prusa and sidewinder) I would expect it to be a possibility for others as well.
