Hi everyone,
I stumbled across this video the other day:
This issue has always annoyed me as I love to run direct drive extruders, but they always seem to have these inconsistent layer lines which can make the prints look ugly! A while ago Mirage C posted a video where he created a solution to the issue using more precise gears with less play, but I haven’t bought a set to test out for myself yet. Maybe another cool test for the forum though?
Anyways, when I saw this video I was very intrigued and had to try it out for myself. And sure enough it does actually work! Now, the differences between the two prints were very minute, but they were there. I have also found a couple of my printers don’t do it as badly as some of my other printers. The difference on the printers that didn’t do it quite as poorly was more noticeable.
Another good thing to note is that you will have a slightly higher print time as the printer has to jump back and forth for each wall, but in my opinion this slight bump to the time is well worth the results the printer produces!
I encourage everyone to give it a try for yourselves and get back to me with how well it works! And if anyone has any ideas on how this could be improved please feel free to share!
Matthew
