I water cooled my extruder (video)

I’m of two minds about this:

First, it seems like a real waste (of time, money, resources) while it’s really pretty neat.

Normally, I’d say this was “cool”, but that seems a bit confusing here.

I can respect the mod, but I do also wonder just how useful it is in the end. The amount of trouble you’d have to go through just doesn’t seem all that worth it.

If you were having a problem then it is not a waste of time.

If you weren’t having a problem then it is just cool.

It would eliminate one of the cooling fans on the extruder and will reduce the noise. The pump can be further away and shielded to eliminate that noise too.

I would consider external cooling but only on the heatsink of the all metal hotend if the printer were in a heated enclosure. I had heat creep issues printing with ASA in my enclosure with all the doors closed. Piping the heat away at the heat sink without loosing heat in the enclosure would be a bonus. I now leave or take the doors off the enclosure and haven’t the need to print anything hotter than PETG/ABS.
