K1C switching Spools

Hey all. I’m running a K1C, and was shown my Matthew the proper way to change spools if I’m switching colours. If I’m just going from a near finished grey spool to a new grey spool, do I still need to extrude the last of the grey in the machine?

The filament runout sensor should catch and stop the print once the spool gets too empty, so you can feel free to keep using it. Once the filament sensor stops the print though, I would recommend taking everything out of the hotend just like I showed you and starting fresh with a new roll!! It will just help to alleviate any potential issues.

Okay, remember, I’m a 100% noob here…

There’s a filament runout sensor??

Yes, the little black box at the back of the machine that the filament passes through is the filament runout sensor! It will check to see if there is filament still going through the tube, as soon as there is no more filament it will pause the print and prompt you to change the filament out!

Once it pauses the print and prompts you to change material you can then follow the steps I showed you in the store in order to change the material out. It is important that you change to new material though, as if you continue extruding the last little bit of material after the spool runs out it can damage the machine.

Well heck, I’ve learned something today

so just to make sure i’m 100% clear:

Once the print stops, heat the nozzle to 200

unlock the head where the filament goes in

pull the tube

push down on the filament so some of it comes out, then yank back to clear the gears

proceed to change spool.

do i have that right?

Sounds about right to me!

Some filament change code will automatically advance the filament for you after the change.
