What is a safe maximum stepper current for the TMC2209s on an SKR Mini E3 V3? According to the screen, it’s currently set at 580Ma for the axis, and 650 for the extruder. The reason I ask, is on the Y axis, the stepper is a little short on power, as it doesn’t take much to make it start to skip. Could I safely up it to 650Ma? I don’t know if it would take that much or more to solve the issue.
I run '2209s at up to 1A without any issues - but make sure the chips are heatsinked and you have a fan blowing over them.
From what I have seen, most people run X/Y/Z steppers at around 0.8A and extruders at around 0.6A.
Yes, they are well heatsinked. The V3 board is pretty good in that respect. I will definitely have a fan blowing at the heatsink. Thanks!
Hello. Usually a maximum of 1.25A. What current you should use depends on your stepper motors. Usually 0.6-0.8A for the extruder and 1A for the other axes.
But before you change the voltage on the driver, I strongly recommend that you look at the datasheet of your stepper as there is a risk of burning the stepper or driver and the motherboard with the driver.
I upped the y axis driver to 650 Ma, and so far it’s working great.
