Object stops printing at same layer

Hi all, I have an object that I’ve printed twice that the printer bugs at the same layer… I get a knocking noise, the extruder grinds the filament, and nothing comes out. The funny thing is that I printed one with pla and one with petg, so different Gcode and temperature, but still the same layer…

What could be the problem? Why would the prints stop at the same point?

It could be heat creep. After the printer runs for a while the heat moves up the hot end and causes the filament to jam above the nozzle. The bumping noise and grinding of the filament is a classic symptom of this.

What type of printer?

Boden or direst drive?

Ender 3 v2, so bowden

I have the same model and had the same problem. If it is a heat creep problem then the fix in the video which solved my problems and should fix most other hot end difficulties. Everything works fine on my printer since I did it.

I’ve actually already done that fix, should I open up the hot end assembly and check it’s still ok?

Yes it could be a jammed nozzle. It is a good idea to change out the short piece of Capricorn tubing in the hot end periodically, it will go bad over time.

I pulled out that short piece of tubing but it was fine, I’ll see how the next print goes
