Omg! more ams issues

I have a Bambi P1s and an AMS. It has been a headache. The AMS (my second replacement now) is still failing to rewind and why it needs to rewind mid single color print I don’t understand, is beyond frustrating. Its been a year and its been not printing longer than its been printing.

This prints well when it works, about the same as the Prusa XL, but it is inconsistent and unreliable.

I know the retraction issue is common, why they just don’t fix the bloody thing I don’ know.

Has anyone found he hydra mod fixes this issue?

Jeez, you have certainly had an uphill battle with this machine.

I have not personally tried out the hydra mod, but I do know that one of my buddies was having issues with his AMS and the mod helped him out.

Might be worth checking in with bambu before doing the mod though as that would definitely void any warranty the AMS has, might be worth seeing if you can get a new replacement… 3rd times a charm?

It’s been a thing. Not the problems I had with my sidewinder and to be fair the printer isn’t really the problem. The Ams is a challenge. I had to replace the inner body it’s rollers were cracked looks.

I am not sure what is up now. It is a bit inconsistent, it will not retract for a bunch of prints then behave for a while.

Well, a new first stage feeder, and it seems to be working again… we shall see.

The ams is certainly a problem that takes a learning curve.

Common issues I’ve learned to mitigate

  1. Always have spare front assist axis they are cheap to buy and once worn down can cause spools to wobble all over the place
  2. First stage feeder gears should get cleaned or hit with some compressed air to keep the gears clear and grippy
  3. Make the the ptfe pathway is nice and smooth so there’s no collisions causing the printer to deal out

Retraction issues are a often a big issue but being more specific can help people diagnose exactly what the problem is, I’ve more or less mastered my ams after a slog of issues I’ve learned to beat!

The first time was a bad board, second roller rubber walking, third the roller mount was cracked, the feed rollers the next time and this it is the roller again.

It’s out of warranty now so I likely will hydra mod it and beef up the rollers. Or burn it.

It’s been over a year now it’s ok. Not an awesome experience not a train wreck. Ok. The p1s produces nice prints that are matte at stock speeds and not very strong. If I slow it down to get glossy strong prints it is not any faster than my mk3 and the prints are about the same ish Bambu has overhang issues and the Prusa has artifacts.

The ams has never been reliable. It has required a massive amount of time maintaining and servicing. I don’t particularly like the Bambu filament it’s ok not bad but not great and grossly overpriced. I am certain that the AMS would be more reliable if I was using their own filament.

The tech support one of the times we spoke suggested I should only use their filament. They inferred my issues were from non Bambu filaments. I inferred they could choose and might stop supporting aftermarket filaments.

I was very put off when they pointed me to a community fix. Nothing was wrong with that exactly but it isn’t in the spirit of CC non commercial.
