Poor inter pass surface finish

Recently my prints have a poor layer finish, it looks like the tip is dragging in the plastic. I know that if the Z offset is off it will do this on the first layer but why is it doing it on every layer including the top one. Shouldn’t the height between the different layers be controlled by the slicer settings IE: .2mm Standard Quality profile the layer height for a .4 Nozzle should be .2mm as set by the slicer, why would this be off. Is there a way to adjust this or fix it.

Ignore the stringing that is a different matter. Even with my crappy photography the drag marks are visible. Sometimes they are worse. I used to get a nice smooth finish.

It could be that the nozzle is worn. I had similar and when I looked at the nozzle tip/hole it was oval.

I would definitely try @HobbyMaker3D’s suggestion, if that does not work there is one other thing that jumps to mind.

It is definitely much less common but sometimes if you have been messing around in the mainboard or have recently taken apart and reassembled your gantry you may have to re-adjust the z-stepper current. If this is not high enough it could cause it to not move up enough which is causing the issues you see here.

Like I said try the other one first, but if you have no luck it might be worth a shot :man_shrugging:

I have rebuilt the gantry in the past but it was OK after that. Is there a description anywhere on how to adjust the MB current?

This one is pretty good:
