Rise of 3D Printed Watch Straps: Showstoppers at Watches and Wonders Event

Switzerland’s esteemed ECAL University of Art and Design, in association with Oxford-based Alloyed Ltd, has recently showcased an impressive series of titanium watch straps.

These watch straps were crafted by imaginative students from the Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship program. The students defied the principles of traditional design by using advanced 3D modeling techniques and titanium 3D printing, creating unusually exquisite pieces that stirred the creative mind.

From the variety of concepts suggested by the students, a handful were selected for production, using high-quality titanium (TI6AI4V) powder. These designs were displayed at the prestigious Watches and Wonders exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland this April, and the work was widely applauded by industry experts and enthusiasts alike.

This collaborative endeavor not only exemplifies the seamless integration of cutting-edge engineering and timeless craftsmanship but also highlights the potential for creative exploration within the realm of luxury accessory design. By bringing together the technical prowess of materials scientists and the artisanal expertise of jewelers, this initiative has set a new standard for innovation in contemporary horology.
