Size variations between colours

I tend to print a lot. I often buy filaments on sale and rarely am too fussy with what colour. Most prints are practical prints so I tend to focus on properties;

PLA for rigidity, PETg for some flexibility, ASA for chemical resistance, TPU or E for Flexibility and impact resistance.

I bought a couple rolls of yellow PLA from the same manufacturer and a couple of rolls of Black same manufacturer and line. Both are made with Ingeo 4043D PLA. This means the colorants are different.

I sliced a file and needed 16 copies. I printed 4 with the black and switched to the white for the next 4, same sliced file same printer same everything.

I often and in this case add hex nuts to the part, it is frustrating when they fall out so I design the prats to be snug. I cannot normally push them in with my fingers but using something hard they pop right in.

The first parts in black are as I expected. Perfect as I designed. The yellow is smaller. 0.7mm smaller on 35mm and the nuts I used knipex pliers to force them in and ½ of them broke trying.

I know from experience some colours are stronger and some more abrasive but I have never noticed a size difference and not one so large.

I guess I should have but I found it interesting.

Anyone else notice the variations between colours of the exact same filaments?

This is kind of why I print a temp tower with every new spool. You would think that PLA is PLA, but when the variations are only a color (I only buy black, white and gray in Creality Ender PLA and all other colors are 3DPC Standard PLA), there are differences at each level (e.g. temp, stringing).

So it looks like you should have adjusted your profile for the yellow.

I have had printing issues with different colour filament, same manufacturer. One colour good, another colour serious print flaws.

I thought it was interesting. I have never really had many issues with different colours of the same brand, unless one is way older, that isn’t often an issue for me. I tend to use what is oldest and ignore the colour.

White can be super abrasive but since I switched all the printers to X nozzles I have not worn one out again. I just found it curious.

I am out or almost out of the two rolls now, I just adjusted the X and Y compensation and it is correct again. Almost a millimetre seemed like a lot I’ll likely be out by tomorrow.

Note to self, do’t buy yellow even if it is 10$ a KG.

It comes down to different colour pigments have different physical properties so they can affect the physical properties of different coloured rolls of the same filament.

Now say that three times fast.

Question: How much of a difference could there be if the pigments where changed (same colour new supplier) in the same filament that was used before the change..
