The Great Slicer Wars of 202?

Everyone says that we should all use the slicer “they” like and you are wrong if you don’t. This is particularly apparent in regards to Creality Print (not Creality slicer based on Cura) which is always getting bitch slapped by someone. Well I read the HELP description that comes with Creality Print, as follows.

Creality Print Is based on Orca slicer,
which is based on BambuStudio,
which is based on Prussa Slicer and Suprerslicer,
which is based on Slic3R,
and that was based on CNC CAM software for milling machines from 20 years ago.

So they are in fact all the same software, just some differences in the user interface. This is the most apparent between Orca Slicer and Creality Print. They are the same F^%$*^$%^ Program. So it is a fact that if you love Orca slicer but hate Creality Print you must have voted for Donald Trump although few will admit it after the fact.

Now can’t we all just get along.

I have used all the slicers available and over time they have improved ( some more than others) but have never found one or the other to be so bad as to Bi%t#h slap someone for their preference.
I am one for getting along ( didn’t vote for Trump nor Poilievre ).

I did say that people wouldn’t admit it. Slicers seem to be just as polarizing as politics. I wouldn’t vote for Trump or Trudeau. One is insane (and that’s being generous) and the other is incompetent. Maybe it has something to do with names starting with a T.

Anyway a little humour can’t hurt with the way the world is now. I hope.

You didn’t mention Cura or Idea Maker

Oddly, even with an Ender 3 V3 SE, Creality Print had too many issues and all of the Slic3R variants you named don’t have a driver at all for my printer. I’ve used Prusa Slicer and Idea Maker for years, but switched to Cura just because it had a decent driver and fewer issues.

I used to use Cura but Creality Print or Orca give me better control and faster print times.

Cura, as far as I know, isn’t related to Orca, Creality Print etc. I was a fan of Cura but my K1MAX didn’t have a have a profile in Cura until recently and it doesn’t seem as complete as the one in Creality Print so for now I will stick to Print. I have know info on Idea Maker.

At the end of the day it all comes down to what you like but under the hood they are mostly the same.

Slic3R is close to dead. It has not had an update in years, to be fair Prusa slicer and the others are their own beast now as Slic3R is left behind dramatically. The same is starting with Orca and Prusa, very similar but differences are starting to appear. Let’s hope they keep mutating organically it is a benefit to everybody.

The copies Bambu and Creality I really wish they would innovate rather than copy. but open source is well open to copy cats.

I found years ago wild differences between slicers, Cura and Prusa to be specific (super slicer was far closer to Prusa) the Creality and Bambu were not released.

The interesting part using settings as close as I could get them the actual print on the same printer were different, faster smoother, better top layers, etc. No clear choice either. Sometimes Cura some times Prusa were better. I started to use multiple slicers and just look over the slice and pick. I still do, although now it is mostly Prusa and Orca, Cura I find clunky so I don’t check it as often.

I think sticking to one slicer may not alway give the best results the printer is capable of.

Cura is a horse of a different colour.

Orca and Creality Print are for all intent the same, Creality has been making a lot of updates so maybe they are trying to take off on their own. That being said I find that Creality Print g code prints faster than Orca. I don’t know how.
