Hey everyone,
Matt and I are working on a new video project for the Youtube channel and wanted to get the community involved early while we’re still designing it.
The idea is something we’re calling Roll for Print. It’s a set of 3D printable dice that generate a random 3D printing challenge. Instead of trying to decide what to print next, you roll the dice and whatever combination comes up becomes the project.
The current concept uses three dice:
1. Material
Example: PLA, PETG, TPU, ASA, Nylon, etc.
2. Project Type
Example: Tool, Household, Art, Toy/Game, Fashion, Props.
3. Constraint
Example: Vase mode only, no supports, 0.8 nozzle, infill only, extra big or extra small, includes hardware.
Matt and I will roll the dice and then have to find (or design) a model that fits the result. We’re planning to turn this into a video challenge, and eventually a weekly “Roll for Print” series.
We’re also planning to publish the dice so anyone can print their own and try the challenge.
Right now we’re still deciding what should actually go on the dice, and that’s where we’d love your input.
Some things we’re looking for:
• Materials we should include
• Use-case categories that would lead to interesting prints
• Constraints that would make the challenge harder or more creative
• Any ideas that might produce funny or unexpected combinations
Ideally the combinations should be challenging but still realistically printable.
If you were rolling these dice, what would you want to see on them?
Curious to hear your ideas!
– Spencer
