Ender 5 Pro CR Touch failed

Hello… I need to pick some brains…
I’ve purchased the Ender 5 Pro in December and I have to admit I’ve been having more issues than I thought I would. I consider myself technically inclined and I think most of my issues came from bad instructions… literally opposite of what I needed to do, or showing opposite wiring, or performing opposite actions, like moving nozzle to corner that was different from instructions. Very frustrating experience so far.
But to the issue at hand.
I received a cr touch as a gift which has been working great since December 25. My printer crashed on Saturday and ever since I’ve been having issues with cr touch.
When using auto-home, the probe retracts but does not stop the bed from moving up and hitting the nozzle every time. I have to shutdown the printer every time.
I’ve ran cr touch tests and all seem to pass. I’ve disconnected the probe and downgraded the firmware and I’m back to manual leveling.
I’m wondering if you’ve seen something like this? I’ve been searching online posts but cr touch is relatively a new device. I’ve reached out to Creality about cr-touch.

My setup is the same as in this post: CR Touch on an Ender5 pro

My initial reaction to it is that you may have knocked a wire loose. When the pin is deployed it’s using the Red/Yellow/Brown wires, The trigger is driven with the Black and white wires. There only function is the tell the Z-Min input that the distance has been triggered. I am suspecting that maybe one of the wires is loose or damaged. Usually, it’s as simple as unplugging and plugging back in again. Gives a chance to reseat the connector. the pin will deploy and retract as well as appear to be triggered into a retracted position with the Zmin plug not connected at all. Only difference is the bed will not stop moving.

Thanks, Jason! Unfortunately, that didn’t work. I unplugged the cable from both ends and plugged it back in. The white cable on one of the connectors may be pinched/bent. It’s been like that since installation but I’ll try a new cable first. I’ll drive up after work.

I tried the new cable and I got the same behavior. On bootup, Solid red light, probe goes out and in twice, purple light. When black and white cable is disconnected, probe flashes red. Auto level looks all ok until the bed hits the nozzle and I shut the printer down. I’ll reach out to Creality again.

Welcome to the club. Not being a smart axx. I have tried everything I could. No go. I am manually traming now. Prints are satisfactory. But a pain to tram after printing. If you get it working. Would love to speak with you.

No no no…I get it! I have been pulling my hair out… I totally get it… Been waiting for Creality to answer… maybe after the Olympics??? Yes, I have mastered manual traming… If space allows I adjust while printer lays down the rim… 10 mm away from the print…

They are likely still off on lunar new year holiday.

that to me is mind-boggling, I am pretty sure it’s a firmware issue, In the pins file, the firmware should point to the 5 pin connector and take all the inputs from it. assuming the firmware is good, Cable is new so the assumption is also good.

Just so that I am not getting sidetracked, Can you just confirm with me what the current problem is? With all cables plugged in, BLtouch deploys and retracts 2x and the blue light comes on. That’s perfect, but when your home it crashes into the bed? am I correct in my understanding?

Hi Jason. Yes, the probe acts normal until the bed doesn’t stop and rams in the nozzle. I even lowered the bed way down and pressed the probe in with my finger and the bed just kept going up. Light on the probe starts to blink red, bed goes up.
I think both of us here are having issues with cr touch not bl touch. Mine worked great for over a month using CR Touch V1.1.1 Non-adapter board firmware (Ender-5 ProMarlin2.0.6HW4.2.2ALTE137.bin). I tried another cable and BL touch driver Ender-5 Pro- Marlin2.0.1 - V1.1.1 - BLTouch.bin…

I am going to refer to my previous post, If the firmware is good, Cable is good, the only thing left is the touch itself.

Can you run an M119 from a console command, Note the output Pull the pin manually on the BLtouch and run the same command again, Note if there is a difference on the return for the BLtouch or Z axis.

This was the output I got

2/11/2022, 4:12:24 PM M119
Endstops - X: at min stop, Y: not stopped, Z: no endstop, Z probe: at min stop

2/11/2022, 4:13:39 PM M119
Endstops - X: at min stop, Y: not stopped, Z: no endstop, Z probe: not stopped

It will tell you if the physical BLtouch is functioning

I did this test on my DUET wifi machine here in my office so your output may look slightly different on Marlin, (just don;t have a marlin BLTOUCH within 6 ft right now.).

Looking at the first, fizzy-ish, photo; the connector isn’t inserted straight. If that’s a consistent problem, you might want to see if there’s some debris in the connector male end that’s preventing it from seating properly.

That was a new cable that was used to test and it was secured after I took the photo… just ran out of fingers to hold everything…lol

Well… I bought bltouch and it behaves the same way. Replaced all but the motherboard… perhaps port went bad since everything else is fine…
I bought this ender pro end of December… what’s the warranty on mb?

HI @uturnski

Sorry, you are having issues with the printer.

Warranty on the MB is 1 year, Just posting the policy here for your information only

If you are local to us you can drop it off and we will confirm the diagnosis and replace the control board as required. You will need the Invoice number of the original purchase. I have looked it up and will PM it to you so you have it close at hand.

Hope this helps
Jason
